Natural Burial Ground
MEMORIAL PLAQUES
If you wish to memorialise a plot then you have the option to purchase a slate memorial plaque. All plaques must be ordered through us and we can assist you with the design and layout. The burial ground is being developed to encourage a natural landscape and look therefore the erection of any monuments, vases, kerbs, fences, flower beds, railings or any other decoration is not allowed. For the same reason we can only allow one plaque per plot.
If you have an interment and get a plaque made at that time it is possible to order a new one when a subsequent interment takes place to replace the first one.
Plaque Details
Each flat memorial plaque is handmade in the UK from 30mm (1.2”) thick highest quality Welsh slate and measures 300mm x 300mm (12” X 12”). The lettering is deep sandblast engraved, hand-painted with highly durable white enamel paint in Maiandra font.
Plaque Design
There is a limit of 10 lines of text and up to 30 characters (including spaces) per line so do bear this in mind when thinking about your wording. The design, delivery and installation are included with the plaque purchase.

HERITAGE
It’s a well known fact that Welsh slate is the finest quality slate in the world. Quarried from North Wales from as early as the 12th century, it is the toughest slate known to man, with very few impurities and a beautiful colour and grain structure. The slate itself is approximately 500 million years old and is made by the compression of clay over time, thanks to the movement of the tectonic plates – which helped form the Welsh Mountains. The high quality of the slate is the result of a combination of high quality of the clay and the precise amount of pressure and heat that it was subjected to over time.
The slate we use for our plaques is Welsh Blue Grey Slate, although it is in fact a dark grey in appearance, which is mined from Blaenau Ffestiniog.
The slate is still being quarried today using very similar methods to those that the slate workers used over a hundred years ago – each and every piece of slate is still being hand split by skilled slate workers using the same tools.
Due to the unique qualities of Welsh slate, it has become the best and only choice for many home ware products, such as placemats, coasters, cheese boards, wine racks, clocks, house signs and many others.

THE PROCESS
If you wish to memorialise a plot then please let us know when you complete the order form.
Discuss with family members to decide on the wording you'd like. Make sure you consider the character and line limits. You can see some examples of other plaques on the right.
Once you've finalised your wording then please email it to us. When we receive your design we'll get to work on a proof for you. We'll email the proof back to you for approval.
We can work together on getting the plaque design right. Once we have a design you're able to approve we can send order it directly from the plaque manufacturer for you.
Once ordered the plaque can take 4 - 6 weeks to be returned to us. Please bear this in mind if you'd like the plaque to be installed on the day on the interment.
If the plaque is ready for the interment date then we can install this on that date if you wish. If the plaque isn't going to be ready then we can produce a temporary plaque for the interment itself.
Once the real plaque arrives we'll install it for you, remove the temporary plaque and will send you a photo of the installed plaque.
