OPTIONS FOR ASHES

At Forget Me Not Fields ashes can be interred or scattered. Interment requires a plot purchase whilst
scattering does not. Ashes plots can be purchased in the wildflower area and most are near a path. The
ashes plots measure 1.5 x 1.5m and are be situated within the wildflower meadow area providing a peaceful
location with beautiful views too.

Ashes plots may be pre-purchased so you can choose the ashes plot you want in advance providing
peace-of-mind for when the time comes.

Option 1 - Plot purchase and a biodegradable ashes container buried within that plot.

This option gives you a physical location to visit for peace of mind and has the option to add a plaque too for
memorialisation. If you decided to do this, we would need the container size before the interment for digging
purposes. You may also purchase a biodegradable urn directly from us too.

Option 2 - Plot purchase with ashes scattered loose within that plot under the turf.

This option has all the advantages of option one but works out slightly more cost effective for you. Prior to
interment we would remove part of the turf within your plot to allow ashes to be scattered directly into the
soil. The turf would be replaced on top shortly after.

Option 3 - Ashes scattered on site without plot purchase.

Ashes scattered loose around the field without plot purchase. This is the least expensive option but doesn’t
give you a specific location to visit or permit memorialisation.

ASHES PLOT DIMENSIONS

Each ashes plot purchased at Forget Me Not Fields measures 1500mm x 1500mm and within that plot one set of ashes in a biodegradable urn may be interred in the centre. You can accommodate up to 4 additional ash remains within the same plot if scattered under-the-turf in your plot. The under-the-turf method basically means that the turf in that section is lifted, ashes can be scattered then the turf is replaced on top again.

A ceremony can still be held if desired when ashes are scattered under the turf. In addition the ashes can be scattered under the turf without disturbing the central burial urn or optional slate memorial plaque.

This option means your plot is available for use at different times of need whilst still being respectful of those already at rest. Remains can enter the plot in any order, for example you may wish to scatter your parents under the turf in your plot now whilst still allowing a place for yourself in the centre at a later date.

Burial plots may be purchased in advance by those wishing to put their affairs in order ahead of time. Family members may pre-purchase adjacent plots to ensure they are buried together when the time comes.

OTHER THINGS TO THINK ABOUT

Memorial Plaques

If you wish to memorialise a plot then you have the option to purchase a slate memorial plaque (when option 1 or 2 above is chosen) measuring 300 x 300mm which is recessed into the ground at the centre of the plot. All plaques must be ordered through us and we can assist you with the design and layout. The burial ground is being developed to encourage a natural landscape and look therefore the erection of any monuments, vases, kerbs, fences, flower beds, railings or any other decoration is not allowed.  For the same reason we can only allow one plaque per plot.

If you have an interment and get a plaque made at that time it is possible to order a new one when a subsequent interment takes place to replace the first one.

Pet Owners

At Forget Me Not Fields we allow the interment of the ashes of both humans and pets.

Due to a difference in legislation regarding the ashes of pets there is a dedicated separate section for pets and their owners. If you would like the option to add the ashes of pets to your plot now or at any time in the future then please let us know when choosing your plot.

The Remembrance Room

The interment service can take place outside on the burial ground itself at the plot or graveside and we have a central stone circle available outside for larger gatherings too.

You can alternatively choose to have a small indoor service, religious or not, in our Remembrance Room. This indoor space can be hired for a 3 hour block for a service and/or wake afterwards. You may also book this space as a bad weather contingency by just paying the deposit.

Coffins and Urns

All coffins and urns to be used at Forget Me Not Fields must be fully biodegradable. We have a selection of these available to purchase directly from us but they’re also something an undertaker can provide too.

Using a Celebrant

Ceremonies can be very informal featuring family members only. If you'd like a more structured service then do consider hiring a celebrant. They can meet with you beforehand to find out more about the deceased, write some prose then deliver it on the day.

Using a Funeral Director

There is no legal requirement to use the services of a funeral director but many families find the prospect of organising a funeral entirely without support from an undertaker very daunting, not least from a practical point of view. A middle road is to find a funeral director who will provide as much or as little help as you require. Here are some you may wish to contact for assistance.
